Technology rises in US hospitality

Technology use, mobile in particular, in US restaurants is on the up. Information about a restaurant, viewing menus, reading online reviews, using rewards and special deals, and ordering takeout or delivery are the top usages; this is followed by looking up nutrition information and paying for meals.

Customers’ reasons for not using technology included a preference for dealing with people, not knowing how to use the devices, as well as not trusting the tools to work correctly.

Hiton hotels are going mobile

Hilton Worldwide has put digital technology, specifically mobile devices, top of its loyalty program agenda in order to provide enhanced customer service.

Over the past seven years it has invested more than $500-million on technology upgrades across its 4,000 properties that include 11 Hilton brands in more than 80 countries.

QR codes for quick pay

QR (Quick Response) codes are being increasingly pushed as quick and easy payment solutions.

Businesses are able to create multiple codes and add them to bills as well as business cards, websites, point or sale and product labelling.  Customers then scan the QR code using apps that have been downloaded onto their mobile devices, which link to an online payment page set up for the payment in question. Payment is then instant for both parties.

Hotel chains expand digital offering to customers

The GLH Hotels Management Group has introduced an ‘out of home’ digital technology solution to its Guoman and Thistle hotel chains.

Corporate and leisure guests will use the service to access the internet and social media, and personal digital and Microsoft Office files as well as for printing requirements. GLH Hotels Management Group expects the tool to be particularly useful to guests’ for work based presentations, boarding passes, rail and theatre tickets.
