Do consumers want a cashless society?

The adoption of contactless payment is being hindered by lack of understanding from consumers particular in terms of security risks.

Peoples’ haste benefits contactless payments

Contactless transactions have more than doubled in growth and are set to continue to rise as adoption of the technology increases.

Payment provider WorldPay has reported annual growth of over 226% and said that contactless payments trebled between 2012 and 2013. In the UK, the provider processed 43.6 million contactless payments in December 2013, up from 12.5 million the year before.

Boots rolls out contactless payment in store

Boots customers can now pay with contactless cards across all UK stores. The health and beauty retailer announced the news following the successful completion of a roll out of contactless terminals with partners Visa Europe and WorldPay.

Mobile (NFC) payments driven forward by Visa and Samsung partnership

The time of paying through a mobile phone as the norm got one step closer this week following a deal between Visa and Samsung that will see Visa’s new payment app running on Samsung handsets. Customers will be able to add Visa payment account information via the app and then go on to make contactless payments using their mobile phones.
